On the occasion of International Day to End Obstetric Fistula (#IDEOF), our organization, Daraja Mbili Vision Volunteers, joined hands with the Ibeno Facility and the local community to raise awareness and support for those affected by this preventable condition. The whole day affair was filled with impactful activities, inspiring testimonies, and a united commitment to empower lives and put an end to obstetric fistula.
To kickstart the event, a spirited march to the Chiefs Camp was organized, inviting people from the surrounding areas to join us in this important cause. The vibrant procession, adorned with colorful banners and passionate chants, attracted the attention of community members and passersby. As we walked together, we symbolized unity and solidarity, sending a powerful message that obstetric fistula deserves our attention and action.
Upon returning to the Ibeno Facility, the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and eagerness to continue the day’s activities.
The highlight of the day was the inspiring testimonies shared by survivors of obstetric fistula. These courageous individuals bravely shared their personal journeys, from the challenges they faced to the triumphs they achieved. Their resilience and strength resonated with everyone present, stirring emotions and igniting a sense of empathy. Through their testimonies, they became beacons of hope, showing that recovery and a fulfilling life after fistula are indeed possible.
The survivors’ stories not only shed light on the devastating consequences of obstetric fistula but also emphasized the importance of comprehensive support and empowerment. Their words sparked conversations and prompted a collective commitment to address the stigma surrounding obstetric fistula and create a community that embraces and uplifts those affected. It was a reminder that by standing together, we can provide hope and support to women on their journey towards healing.
Following the survivors’ testimonies, community members and volunteers engaged in discussions and activities aimed at raising awareness about obstetric fistula. Informative sessions were conducted to educate the community about the causes, prevention, and available treatment options. Through interactive workshops, participants learned about the importance of antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, and access to quality maternal healthcare services.
The activities encouraged open dialogue, allowing community members to ask questions and express their concerns. The discussions were facilitated by healthcare professionals and experts in the field, who shared valuable insights and dispelled common misconceptions about obstetric fistula. It was a powerful opportunity for individuals to learn, grow, and challenge societal norms surrounding maternal health.
As the day came to a close, a shared commitment to action emerged. Attendees and community members pledged their support in various ways, including volunteering their time, spreading awareness, and advocating for improved maternal healthcare services. The event served as a catalyst for continued efforts to prevent and treat obstetric fistula, with the shared belief that every woman deserves access to safe and dignified childbirth.
The International Day to End Obstetric Fistula at Ibeno Facility was a testament to the power of unity, compassion, and determination.
