Welcome to our HIV Program at Daraja Mbili Vision Volunteers.

We are dedicated to increasing universal access to care and treatment services for individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Kenya. With over 1.5 million people affected by the pandemic, our aim is to reduce new infections and improve the quality of life for people living with HIV through community-led interventions at the grassroots level.

Our Treatment, Care, and Support (TCS) program focuses on providing comprehensive care and support services outside of health facilities. We work closely with People Living with HIV (PLHIV) to advance their care, enhance viral load suppression, and ensure adherence to treatment. By expanding universal access to care and treatment services, our goal is to reduce new HIV infections by at least 25% and decrease AIDS-related deaths by 75%.

Key Activities:

  1. Training of Community Health Volunteers (CHVs): We provide training on Home and Community-Based Care (HCBC) and Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) to equip CHVs with the necessary skills to support PLHIV in their communities.

  2. HIV Counseling and Testing: We conduct HIV counseling and testing services targeting youth and the general population, ensuring early detection and linkage to care.

  3. Care and Support Services: We offer care and support services outside of health facilities, specifically targeting children, adolescents, youth, and older people living with HIV (PLHIV). Our aim is to improve their overall well-being and quality of life.

  4. Community Awareness: We raise awareness about Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), with a particular focus on engaging men. We also facilitate referral for STI screening and treatment among youth.

  5. Community (Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission) PMTCT: We support follow-up care for HIV+ pregnant and lactating mothers, as well as exposed infants (HEIs), to ensure effective prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

  6. Adherence Counseling and Treatment Literacy: We provide community awareness on adherence counseling, defaulter tracing, and treatment literacy for individuals living with HIV and those co-infected with TB.

In addition to our TCS program, we have specific interventions tailored for adolescents and young people (AGYW) aged between 15-24 years. These interventions aim to reduce their vulnerability to HIV infection and promote sexual and reproductive health outcomes.

Key Intervention Areas:

  1. Behavioral Change: We implement programs that promote positive behavioral change among adolescents and young people, addressing risky behaviors and promoting healthy choices.

  2. Care, Treatment, and Support: We offer comprehensive care, treatment, and support services to AGYW living with HIV, ensuring they have access to the necessary medical interventions and adherence support.

  3. Gender-Based Violence Prevention and Treatment: We work to prevent and address gender-based violence among adolescents and young people, providing support and linking them to appropriate services.

  4. HIV Testing Services: We encourage HIV testing services uptake among AGYW, promoting early detection, and facilitating access to care and treatment.

  5. Coordination of Multi-Sectoral Interventions: We collaborate with various sectors to ensure a holistic approach to addressing the needs of adolescents and young people, particularly in areas of sexual and reproductive health education.

At Daraja Mbili Vision Volunteers, we are committed to making a lasting impact on the HIV epidemic in Kenya. Through our community-led interventions and partnerships, we strive to improve the lives of individuals living with HIV and reduce the incidence of new infections among vulnerable populations.
