Welcome to the Action on Fistula (AOF) Program at Daraja Mbili Vision Volunteers.

Our program was established in 2014 in response to the high prevalence of obstetric fistula among women in the counties of Kisii, Nyamira, and Narok. We specifically target vulnerable women of reproductive age who suffer from this condition following childbirth.

The primary focus of our program is to raise awareness about obstetric fistula, identify women living with fistula, and refer them for free surgical repairs at designated treatment centers. We work closely with the community to provide information and education, ensuring that women understand the causes, symptoms, and available treatment options for fistula.

Through strategic partnerships with renowned treatment centers such as Gynocare Kisii, Eldoret, Cheranganyi Nursing Home in Kitale, Kisumu District Hospital, Jamaa Hospital in Nairobi, and Bomu Hospital in Mombasa, we facilitate access to quality surgical interventions for affected women. Our ultimate goal is to contribute to ending fistula within a generation by improving access to treatment and supporting the successful reintegration of women into their communities following corrective surgeries.

Key objectives of our program include:

  1. Awareness Creation: We conduct community outreach programs to raise awareness about obstetric fistula, dispel myths, and educate community members on prevention, early detection, and available treatment options.

  2. Identification and Referral: We collaborate with healthcare providers, community health workers, and community leaders to identify women living with fistula. We provide them with the necessary support and refer them to specialized treatment centers for free surgical repairs.

  3. Surgical Interventions: We facilitate access to high-quality fistula repair surgeries at our partner treatment centers. We ensure that women receive comprehensive medical care and support throughout the surgical process.

  4. Rehabilitation and Reintegration: We provide post-surgical care, counseling, and rehabilitation services to women who have undergone fistula repair surgeries. We aim to empower them with skills and knowledge for socioeconomic reintegration, ensuring they can lead fulfilling lives after treatment.

Through the Action on Fistula Program, we strive to bring hope and healing to women affected by obstetric fistula. By addressing the root causes, raising awareness, and providing access to life-changing surgeries, we are working towards the eradication of fistula and the restoration of dignity for affected women.
